It's meant to be a compliment
Well, if someone wanted to use a lyric from my song as a title for their book, I would be delighted and take it as a compliment. Now, I get that the one who wrote the fabulous lyric should be recognised, but if they say 'yes by all means go ahead', shouldn't that be enough? Should you then also have to contact some multi billionaire dollar company to ask for their permission as they now own the rights? This all seems complicated and soul destroying. I might have the wrong end of the stick, but invariably the massive company cannot deign to even acknowledge your email, let alone advise you. So, you end up using a book title that you aren't half so happy with. Don't get me started on trying to cheaply produce an attractive book cover from your phone camera.
